 Part-Time Job Assistance

Earning whileyou study, withoutlosing the plot.

Very few consultancies in Kerala touch this. It is one of the most useful things we do.

Part-Time Job Assistance at Gratify Education Consultancy, Edappal

Why we got into this

A large share of the students we place are the first in their family to study outside Kerala. The tuition is manageable; it is the monthly reality (mess top-ups, travel home, books, a phone bill) that strains a household.

Students were already finding work on their own, through notice boards and WhatsApp groups, and some of it was bad: unpaid trial shifts, night hours that wrecked attendance, employers who paid two months late. So we started vetting it.

What we look for in an opportunity

  • Hours that fit around class. Evenings and weekends. Nothing that collides with lab sessions or clinical postings.
  • A cap of around 15–20 hours a week. Past that, marks start falling, and we have seen it.
  • Travel under 30 minutes from campus or hostel, and safe at the hour the shift ends.
  • An employer who pays on time: checked, usually through students already working there.
  • Something that builds a CV where possible: tutoring, campus ambassador work, front-desk roles, content and design work, retail and café shifts in the student districts.

The honest caveats

We will not pretend this suits everyone.

  • First-years should wait a semester. Settle, find your footing academically, then look.
  • Some courses have no room for it. MBBS, BDS and nursing with clinical postings leave very little space, and we say so rather than set a student up to fail.
  • We cannot guarantee a job. We make introductions and vouch for students; employers decide.
  • Studies come first. If marks drop, our advice will be to stop working, even though that is not what anyone wants to hear.

Questions

Part-Time Job Assistance,
answered

It varies widely by city, role and hours, and we will not quote a figure that sets expectations wrongly. What we can say is that most students we help aim to cover monthly living costs rather than tuition.

For Indian students at Indian colleges there is no legal restriction, though individual hostels and colleges may have their own rules on timings. We check the college's position before suggesting anything.

Work rights abroad are governed by the student visa of that country and differ enormously. We brief study-abroad students on what their specific visa permits, and never promise work that the visa does not allow.

It can, if it is unmanaged. That is exactly why we cap the hours we recommend and check in during the first year.
